Why I’m Running:

“I am proud to call Cobb County home. For years, I have been committed to ensuring that Cobb continues to be a place we are proud to call home. That’s exactly why I have been serving this community for over 14 years—by working with law enforcement, enhancing our quality of life and promoting businesses. But now I want to take my service to a new level. I know that if I have delivered results and made a difference as a private citizen, I can do even more for Cobb families as your Commissioner. I am determined to see that Cobb continues to excel and that’s why I am running.”  --JoAnn

JoAnn Birrell.

The Difference is Results.

Whether it’s enhancing public safety, bettering our quality of life or working with businesses and community leaders in economic development initiatives, JoAnn has delivered.

For the last 14+years, while living in Cobb County, JoAnn has been active in the community, serving her neighbors and delivering results.  As the past Chair of the Cobb Neighborhood Safety Commission, her work on the Police Email Notification System, and through countless public safety fundraising efforts, JoAnn has played a vital role in making our county safer.

As a member of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, past board member of the Development Authority of Cobb County, and as a board member of the Northeast Cobb Business Association, JoAnn has worked to promote our businesses and attract new ones.

And through her work at Waste Management and Keep Cobb Beautiful she has worked to protect our quality of life.

JoAnn’s story illustrates a record of results. If JoAnn can deliver as a private citizen, imagine what she can get done on the county commission.

A 14+year resident of Cobb County, JoAnn has been involved in countless community organizations and has received numerous awards for her service. She has served as the past Chair of Keep Cobb Beautiful, past Chair of the Neighborhood Safety Commission, current board member of the Northeast Cobb Business Association, served as a board member of the Development Authority of Cobb County, Leadership Cobb Class of 2005 and a member of the Cobb County Republican Women and Cobb GOP. JoAnn was the recipient of Cobb Public Safety Directors Award of Excellence in 2003, helped the Cobb County Police raise $10,200 in 2006 to fund two new police dogs, Women of Achievement Honoree in 2007 by the YWCA of Northwest Georgia and received the 2008 Keep Cobb Beautiful Environmental Leadership Award. JoAnn is no newcomer to local government. In her 17 years working with Waste Management, JoAnn has worked with not only the Cobb County Commission, but County Commissions all over the metro-Atlanta area. JoAnn gets it. Yes JoAnn gets it done. She won’t need any on the job training— she’ll be ready to go to work for the people of Cobb County on Day 1. She has worked as the Community Relations Manager for Waste Management for 17 years. JoAnn and her husband Dave are members of the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta where she is a member of the Women’s Guild and serves as Lay Minister.  She also served on Parish Council at St. Joseph’s in Marietta and was a pastoral care volunteer at Kennestone Hospital.
